- Cleaning
and polishing of teeth
Scaling of teeth removes trapped
food and plaque full of germs that can cause decay and gum
disease. Stains from coffee, tea, cigarettes or red wine can be
removed by having your teeth polished. Regular scaling and
polishing helps keep your teeth and gums healthy by making it
easier for you to keep your teeth clean at home.
-
Periodontal (Gum) Care
Periodontal disease affects your
gums and bone supporting your teeth. It is caused by sticky plaque
and hard deposits of tartar, when teeth and gums are not kept
clean. Scaling, polishing and root planning are required to remove
hard tartar and prevent progress of periodontal disease.
-
Fillings
If a part of your tooth has been
lost because of decay or accidental damage, a filling may help
replace it. A filling will rebuild the tooth, prevent further
decay and can end a toothache or prevent toothache developing.
- Root Canal treatment
Decay or injury to a tooth can
damage the nerves and blood supply in the root canal and lead to
abscess formation at the end of the root. Root canal treatment
removes damaged or dead nerves and fills the space left. Severe
pain from the damaged nerve ends quickly once the root canal is
cleaned. Without a root filling, a tooth with a dead nerve would
probably have to be taken out.
- Crown
A crown (made of metal or
porcelain) completely covers a weak tooth above the gum line and
protects it. A crown is strong and can look and feel exactly like
your natural tooth.
-
Veneer
A tooth damaged by decay or an
accident, or be discolored can be repaired with a veneer. Veneer,
which is a thin layer of tooth-colored material, will hide
imperfections in your teeth and protect it from further damage.
-
Extractions
A decayed, damaged or loose tooth
may need to be extracted to relieve pain or end infection and can
sometimes be the only way to keep the oral cavity healthy.
Children's teeth are sometimes taken out to allow new or remaining
teeth grow regularly or without being crowded.
- Dentures and fixed porcelain bridges
A removable denture replaces missing teeth. Partial dentures
replace a few missing teeth and full dentures are needed if all
natural teeth are missing. Dentures are custom-made to make your
teeth look as natural as possible. Teeth that are left are
protected from wear and tear. Without dentures, the natural teeth
may move or tilt, stopping your teeth from biting together
properly. A fixed porcelain bridge replaces a missing tooth (or
teeth) by fixing the replacement to the natural teeth at each side
of the gap. If you have lost some teeth, dentures or bridges can
improve the way you look, bite, chew and speak.
